Your wall, the cards on it and the points behind it each need data about you, and this page walks through them one at a time — what the feature needs, and who outside buildawall receives anything. Where the operator’s formal details are still missing, the page marks the gap instead of filling it.

What we store and why

  • Your account: the email address you sign in with, and the name, handle, bio, photo, country and language you choose to add. We need them to sign you in and to show your wall.
  • Your wall: the things you add, the links you paste, the words you write and the photos you upload. A public wall can be seen by anyone with the link; an unlisted wall is hidden from search engines; a private wall is visible only to you.
  • Warranty vault: the receipts, invoices and dates you upload. They are visible only to you and never appear on your wall.
  • People who visit a wall: with their permission, a visitor cookie counts views and Buy clicks so the owner can see what helps. Click attribution uses a hashed identifier, never a raw IP address.
  • Emails: sign-in links, and the notifications you keep switched on in your settings.

AI features

Some features send text or images to an AI model provider: a wall draft made from your description, a shelf photo you import, a receipt you upload to the vault, and the questions visitors ask a wall. Only what the feature needs is sent. The model publishes nothing: nothing goes on your wall until you confirm it.

Photos, receipts and words you send to sort your things

When you sort your things from the start page, what you send is stored so that it can be sorted: the words you wrote, the links you pasted, and — once you are signed in by email — the photos, receipts and PDFs you attach. We read them to work out which products they show.

Attached files are never published. They do not become the picture on a card and are never shown on a wall: the picture on a card comes from the shop’s own product page. Your file is working material for recognising things, and nothing else.

To recognise what is in a file, the image is sent to the AI model provider described above. Only the file goes: not your name, not your email address, not your wall.

Files are deleted after 7 days. A file we did not accept is deleted straight away, and all that stays is a technical fingerprint of it, the category matched and the time — what we need to answer an appeal and to count refusals for the authorities.

What outlives the file is the list of what was recognised and the line on each card saying where it came from — “from your receipt”, “from your photo”. Without it, a month later nothing could answer how a thing got onto your wall.

From a receipt we take the names of the purchased lines and nothing else. The address, the buyer’s name, the order number and any card digits are not stored and never appear on a card.

Anything you leave unticked at the confirmation step is deleted with the rest. An export of your data includes what you sent, and erasing your account deletes these files along with everything else.

Who else receives data

Shops and affiliate networks: when you follow a Buy link, you leave buildawall for the shop. The link carries a click reference so the shop can confirm a purchase — not your name or email address. From then on, the shop’s own privacy policy applies.

Service providers that host the site, deliver emails and store files work on the operator’s behalf.

When things come off our shelves

Receipts, uploaded photos, and wall content are kept while your account exists. Uploaded photos used only to recognise a product are deleted after parsing.

You can export or erase your data from the privacy settings. Erasure removes personal data and content; anonymised accounting records of commissions and point movements are retained where the law requires it.

Click attribution stores a hashed visitor identifier, never a raw IP address or user agent.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to its use, and take it with you to another service. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority.
